Description | Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley and challenger Lynda Lovejoy squared off on Tuesday in a debate about education, economic development and health care at Arizona State University.
Lovejoy said the Navajo "leadership needs to move to a higher capacity." She said her experience as a New Mexico lawmaker qualifies her to be the first woman to lead the Navajo Nation, Arizona's largest American Indian tribe.
Shirley said, if re-elected, he will stimulate economic growth by bringing in more jobs through casinos, energy companies or tourism. He envisions locating six casinos on the nation that will create 4,000 jobs. |
