| Description | AUSTIN - Carole Keeton Strayhorn abruptly dropped her lawsuit Thursday to get "Grandma" listed as part of her name on the November ballot for governor.
Strayhorn, an independent candidate who was hoping to boost her name recognition among voters, announced the decision a few hours after a judge ruled she didn't have jurisdiction to decide the nickname case.
Strayhorn sued Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams this month in her attempt to have her name listed as "Carole Keeton 'Grandma' Strayhorn" on the Nov. 7 ballot. Williams had ruled that "Grandma" is a slogan, not a nickname permitted on the ballot. |
