If Paul Martin loses, the chattering classes will try to identify his “tipping point” — that mystical moment when the Liberals started to slide toward electoral oblivion.

Some will point to Martin’s confused campaign, or to his off-the-wall promise to abandon federal use of the “notwithstanding clause” in future constitutional crises. I believe the tipping points (there were more than one) may have come earlier.
