DescriptionPhiladelphia Inquirer article.

An excerpt...
"Gov. Rendell signed into law today a bill repealing the controversial summer pay raise that had infuriated voters like no other issue to come out of state Capitol in recent times.

His action came after the Senate approved the legislation, which cleared the House on Monday.

"The legislative pay raise destroyed the reputation of this legislature, and that is a fact," said Sen. Lisa Boscola (D., Northampton) on the Senate floor. "...You can't clean up a Category 5 manmade disaster overnight. It's going to take a long time and a lot of work. But we do owe it to the people of Pennsylvania to rebuild what has been destroyed."

In a unanimous vote at 12:30 p.m., senators sent the legislation to Rendell.

Kate Philips, the governor's press secretary, said, "The governor would like to get this behind him as quickly as possible and move forward with the peoples' business."

The repeal comes four months and nine days after the pay raise package was passed at 2 a.m. July 7, without debate or public input. It hiked legislative base salaries 16 percent to $81,050."
