Description | HELENA - Perennial candidate Robert Kelleher is running again, this time as a Republican for the U.S. Senate.
Kelleher, 82, announced Friday that he will challenge three-term U.S. Sen. Conrad Burns for the GOP nomination for the Senate in June 2006. After running - and losing - races for decades as a Democrat, Kelleher lost bids as a Green Party candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2002 and for governor in 2004.
He has won once, when he elected as a Democrat in 1971 to the Montana Constitutional Convention. Kelleher has lost 13 other races, before and since, for offices including president in 1976, U.S. Senate and House, governor and Legislature. |
