Description | A former California congressman now living in Scottsdale says he is contemplating a primary run in District 8 next year against Sen. Carolyn Allen.
“I’m considering it seriously, says Republican Frank Riggs, who served three terms in Congress from 1991-1993 and from 1995-1999. “I’m in the exploratory mode to see if there’s a groundswell out there for change.”
Mr. Riggs was ready to announce for the governor’s race in June, but decided against it, The Arizona Republic reported at the time.
He said Ms. Allen, who was elected to her second term in the Senate last year and has been the target of the more conservative element in the state Republican Party, initiated a meeting with him last month.
“We politely disagreed on issues,” especially on school choice, said Mr. Riggs, a national advocate for charter schools. |
