Description | MONTGOMERY — State Sen. Tommy Ed Roberts' announcement that he would not seek re-election in 2006 was Christmas in May for Republicans and Halloween for Democrats.
The conservative Roberts, with his strong Business Council ties, has remained a Democrat in a district with larger and larger pockets of straight-ticket GOP voting.
That's not keeping the Democrats from looking for a face, one that can raise an estimated $1 million needed to make the run. But put a new face on the Democratic ticket and the result could be the political version of the headless horseman on an election night of shivers.
