Description | Former Nebraska congressman and self-described engaged citizen Clair Callan died Saturday evening at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. He was 85 years old.
The Odell native lived with his wife, Joyce, in Fairbury. Friends said Callan had been sick in recent weeks, which may have had something to do with his death, though family members were not available Sunday evening to confirm how Callan died.
Callan was known across the country for his court cases challenging the constitutional legality of President George W. Bush's decision to go to war in Iraq.
And he'll be remembered in Nebraska as a watchdog for the people, said friend Steve Sorum, who met Callan about 25 years ago when ethanol became a topic of interest for Callan. Sorum is the ethanol board project manager for the state. |
