DescriptionCivil rights pioneer Winson Hudson passed away early Saturday morning in a Jackson hospital.

In 1964 Hudson and her sister Dovie Hudson filed a lawsuit to desegregate the schools in Leake County . Her home and her sister's home were bombed by the KKK in the 1960's. Hudson also worked with Medger Evers to establish the Leake County chapter of the NAACP in Carthage and became its president. The Carthage native also testified before the U.S. Civil Rights Commission. She co-wrote the book "Mississippi Harmony: Memoirs of a Freedom Fighter" which was published in 2002. Winson Hudson was 87 years old.
