Description
Doña Ana County is located in southcentral part of New Mexico and is named for Doña Ana Robledo, who died in 1680 while fleeing the Pueblo Revolt.
It shares a border with Texas and Mexico and with a population just under 215,579, which makes it the second-most populated county in the state. Its county seat is Las Cruces, the second-most populous municipality in New Mexico. The County has a total area of 3,814 square miles, containing a number of prominent geographical features, most notably the Mesilla Valley, the flood plain of the Rio Grande.
Doña Ana County is home to the White Sands National Monument, the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument, and is a leading producer of chile peppers, onions, and pecans. The county seat is in Las Cruces, where county government helps its residents with a multitude of resources including community development, emergency management, flood control and public safety
