Description St. John's South-Mount Pearl takes in that part of the capital south of a line formed by Kenmount Road, Long's Hill, Gower Street, King's Bridge Road, Quidi Vidi Lake and Quidi Vidi Harbour. It includes the adjoining city of Mount Pearl and the town of Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove.

In 2001, census-takers counted 82,212 residents. Two per cent are immigrants and 98 per cent are anglophones.

The big employers here are government and retail. With an unemployment rate of 12.1 per cent and an average family income of $56,999, this riding is worse off than St. John's North but wealthier than Newfoundland and Labrador's other ridings.

This riding was known as St. John's West until 2004, when a fifth of its population was carved away and given to the Avalon riding.

Population: 82,212
