Info | Governor Frank H. Cooney, a Democrat, was born December 31, 1872, in Ontario, Canada. A Butte and Missoula businessman, Cooney was elected Lieutenant Governor in 1933. After succeeding Erickson, Cooney served as acting governor until 1935. During his time in office he worked with the federal government to ensure the success of the New Deal. He also reformed the state liquor laws and established a water conservation program. He died in office of heart failure in 1935.
