Ruth Farkas, served as Ambassador to Luxembourg from 1973 to 1976,
A recipient of the Teachers College Distinguished Alumni Award in 1982 at Columbia University in New York City, Farkas earned her Master of Arts degree in sociology at Teachers Collge in 1932.
Her husband, George, was the founder of Alexander's department stores. Farkas was involved in many philanthropic activities through the Role Foundation, which she established in 1967.
She died Friday, October 18 at 89.
