Prior to election Chief Executive of a multi-disciplinary consultancy, including planning, architecture, engineering and building company. Member, Small Business Council of Queensland (1996 - 1998); Queensland Small Business Advisory Council (from 1998 - 2001);

Memberships include The Institute of Engineers Australia; Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland; and Institute of Project Management.

Community involvement includes: Honorary Ambassador for the City of Brisbane (from 1994), fostering economic and cultural ties between Brisbane and Asia Pacific countries; Honorary Citizen of the City of Shenzhen, China; Chairman of the Sister Cities Committee between Brisbane and Shenzhen, China (1992 - 2001); President of the Valley Business Association (1992 - 1996); Council member of the Queensland China Council of Queensland (from 1998 - 2001); and previously Director of the Queensland Ballet Inc.

Selected as a torchbearer for the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Interests include Christianity, music, singing, scuba diving, flying single engine aircraft and movies.
