Info | TRUMBULL, Joseph, a Representative from Connecticut; born in Lebanon, Conn., December 7, 1782; completed preparatory studies; was graduated from Yale College in 1801; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1803 at Windham, Conn., and commenced practice in Hartford, Conn.; in 1828 became president of the Hartford Bank and later of the Providence, Hartford & Fishkill Railroad Co.; member of the State house of representatives in 1832; elected to the Twenty-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of William W. Ellsworth and served from December 1, 1834, to March 3, 1835; resigned the presidency of the bank in November 1839; elected as a Whig to the Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh Congresses (March 4, 1839-March 3, 1843); again a member of the State house of representatives in 1848; Governor of Connecticut in 1849 and 1850; again elected to the State house of representatives in 1851; died in Hartford, Conn., August 4, 1861; interment in the East Cemetery, Lebanon, Conn.
