Info | Mike Taylor was born in Lewistown and raised in Judith Basin County, where he got his first job - shining shoes, running errands, and sweeping the floors in his grandfather's barbershop - at the age of eight. In the summers he took work as a ranch hand. He took that experience and followed in his family's footsteps, beginning a successful business career in the hair care industry. With a loan given on a good old-fashioned hand shake, he opened his own hair cutting shop, getting his first hands-on experience with creating jobs.
Soon that one shop became a chain. At the same time he developed a school business, passing his knowledge on to others, and began to sell and manufacture the products his own business used to buy. The business grew and grew, employing more and more people and creating new jobs.
At the same time, he branched out into other business endeavors, including Twin Creek Ranch, a successful Suffolk and Columbia sheep operation. Under Mike's management, the ranch grew to do business in 43 states, and produced top genetic animals in their breeds.
In the early 90's, Mike sold his hair care business, and in 1996 he was elected to the Montana State Senate representing Lake County. In his experience doing business in Montana and around the country, Mike learned that Montana's tax and regulatory climate was making it less attractive than other states for businesses and new jobs. So he set out to fix that in the state Senate, and played an important role in the Senate's effort to pass new legislation for economic development.
