Info | J-F moved to Montreal in 1987 to study theatre and music, then earned a bachelor`s degree in translation and ESL teaching. He has been teaching English since 2001, and at the École Internationale in Westmount since 2004. In the last 20 years, J-F had the opportunity to teach hundreds of students from NDG-Westmount, and from all over Montreal. It is while working as a teacher that J-F realized that his students were confronted with many financial and educational obstacles, and it was his former student, Emma Elbourne-Weinstock, who campaigned for the NDP in the last election, that inspired him to continue the “EIM connection” to fight social injustices.
J-F is now a member of the Committee of Relations with Indigenous People, a member of the Environmental Committee, and a member of the NDP Riding Association Executive. It is his willingness to fight against inequalities that pushed him into politics: to fight to have more housing co-ops in urban areas, to build bridges with Indigenous
Nations, to fight for the preservation of our ecosystem, and to ensure that young Canadians have access to an affordable and quality education system.
A Jack-of-All-Trades, J-F is an avid reader of numerous topics: philosophy, sociology, economics, geopolitics, and Indigenous literature are among his favourite subjects. In a nutshell, this is what defines our candidate Jean-Francois Filion.
