Info | Councilman Ignizio has lived on the South Shore for over 30 Years, attending PS 42 in Eltingville, IS 7 and St. Joseph by the Sea High School in Huguenot. He earned his bachelor's degree in communications and journalism from Rider University, Lawrenceville, NJ.
Since 1996, Vincent Ignizio has been actively involved in working to make Staten Island a better place to live. He served as Chief of Staff to former New York City Councilman Stephen Fiala, and was later appointed administrator for the 51st Council District, charged with addressing the needs of the South Shore, by then Speaker Vallone. During that time, Ignizio was responsible for managing the district office and representing the south shore on the New York City Council.
He went on to serve as Chief of Staff to Councilman Andrew Lanza, where he founded the bipartisan Chief of Staff Caucus, earning a commendation from Speaker Gifford Miller.
During his tenure as Chief of Staff, Ignizio co-authored five major downzoning applications for the South Shore, handled over $50 million in capital projects and was instrumental in building new park and rides and adding more than 200 acres of parkland Vincent Ignizio was elected to the New York State Assembly in the 2004 general election, representing the 62nd district which includes the South Shore. There, he was the ranking member on the Corporations and Authorities Committee, was the first freshman member appointed to the Ways and Means Committee in 20 years, and was elected Chairman of Assembly Republican Review Committee.
Ignizio was elected to the City Council in a 2007 special election to replace Councilman Lanza, garnering more than 74% of the vote. He is a member of the Finance, Ethics, Education, Transportation and Land Use Committees and was recently elected Minority Whip, one of five Officers of the New York City Council. He is also a member of the prestigious Budget Negotiation Team.
He has worked tirelessly to establish a South Shore Ferry and expand express bus service while fighting to build the Rossville “Hub” Library. He has also spearheaded the effort to add nearly 800 park and ride spots on the South Shore, and build a K-12 complex in the Charleston section of Staten Island. Fighting to maintain the small town feel, Ignizio is responsible for bringing “Movies in the Park” to Staten Island and granting the largest autism grant to the borough. He continues to work with community and civic leaders to identify concerns and fight for his constituents’ fair share of city funding and services.
He currently resides with his wife Letizia, daughter Lina, and family dog Nero in Annadale. Vincent is a parishioner at Holy Child Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and involved in youth soccer on Staten Island.
