Info | Toby Barrett is currently MPP for Haldimand-Norfolk, and Agriculture and Food Critic for the Official Opposition. He has been re-nominated as the PC Party Candidate for this riding in the coming General Election, October 2007.
Toby was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in June 1995, and was re-elected in the 1999 and 2003 provincial elections as MPP for the riding of Haldimand-Norfolk-Brant.
In June, 1999, Premier Mike Harris appointed Toby as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of the Environment. He was appointed Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Natural Resources in February, 2001. In the spring of 2002, Premier Ernie Eves appointed Toby Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Agriculture.
Toby served as chair of Rural Caucus, the Standing Committee on Justice and Social Policy, the Standing Committee on Regulations and Private Bills, and as a member of the Environment Policy Cabinet Committee.
Toby has a Masters of Science degree from the Ontario Agricultural College and a degree in Economics from the University of Guelph.
A former teacher of high school agriculture and environmental science, he is a partner in his family farm near Port Dover and, for 20 years, worked for the Ontario Addiction Research Foundation.
In 1993, Toby was awarded the Canada 125 medal for outstanding community service.
A life-long resident, Toby and his wife, Cari, live on the family farm near Port Dover with their three children: Shawn, Brett and Brittany. In the past, Toby has travelled in 50 countries.
