InfoIn the spring of 1998, voters in Timberlea-Prospect elected Bill Estabrooks to the Legislature. A first-time member, Bill was joined by another 18 NDP MLAs to form the largest NDP caucus ever in Nova Scotia. He was re-elected on July 27, 1999 and in 2003.

Before his election, Bill was a school teacher and dedicated community volunteer. He has taught at various Halifax schools, including Sir John A. Macdonald High, Sackville High and Brookside Junior High.

Bill is the past president of the St. Margarets Bay Lions Club, president of the Mariners Junior Hockey Team and the St. Margarets Master Hockey League. Bill continues to serve the community as an active Lions Club member. He is actively involved in Oldtimers Hockey.

Bill has been recognized on several occasions for his deep commitment to making a positive contribution to his community. He was three times voted teacher of the year, received the Lions International Presidents Recognition Award and received the Medal of Bravery from the Governor General for an act of personal heroism. Some of his personal interests include being a motivational speaker to Youth as Our Future and the Estabrooks family genealogy.

Bill is the NDP critic for Transportation and Public Works. He has worked to bring openness and public input to the road construction process. He sees the need for viable, long-term planning as central to improving the network of roads and highways in Nova Scotia. Bill also cares deeply about continuing public access to coastal properties across the province and has been very active attending public hearings.

The Estabrooks Family has lived at 4909 St. Margarets Bay Road for almost three decades.
