InfoSue Gault was born in the mining town of Timmins, Ontario, not too far below James Bay, part of the Hudson Bay system. Because her father worked for the Canadian Forces, as an civil engineer she grew up in several typical northern small towns which helped shape her love of the outdoors and her intense caring about the environment. Both grandmothers taught her the old ways of caring for Mother Earth, something she maintains and teaches even to this day.

Because of her ‘can do' mind set, Sue has worked in a variety of positions that the average person would find challenging. Some of these include: dining room hostess, fast food waitress, food prep, truck driver, taxi dispatcher, floor walker and sales manager, cold sales promoter, office manager, secretary, office administrator for high and low-rise rental and condo buildings, A/R A/P clerk, outreach office manager, community advocate, food safety advocate, food bank manager, exclusive book agent, exclusive aboriginal artwork agent, and jewelry designer.

In 1981, Sue suffered severe trauma as a pedestrian when hit by a Cadillac and dragged sixty feet. She was told by a team of doctors that she would never walk properly again. This sage advice she disregarded and persevered, to become a fully independent mobile person. She was successful and most who know her didn't realize she is handicapped.

In the middle 1990's Sue started to explore her family history to confirm what she had believed all her life. She confirmed that her family roots were intertwined with the Algonquin and Ojibwa peoples. After a long exploration of her family roots, she was given confirmation and acceptance by Elders that she is indeed Métis. A total of five Elders on different occasions have affirmed that Sue is an Elder. Because of her mixed blood she is proud to be called Métis.

In 2002 Sue founded and became the first Spokesperson for the Bear Spirit Métis People who are located in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
