Info | Steve Sundberg has been an Aurora resident for 25 years. He manages and operates a popular local family owned bar & grill, with 26 employees. He has also enjoyed doing voice over work and real estate investing, which includes maintaining a mountain town Airbnb with his wife.
Steve currently serves on the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, is Chair of the Leadership Aurora Board (30 members) and serves on the Pickens Technical College Culinary Advisory Board, as well as the school’s Marketing/ Hospitality Board. He has been a Court Appointment Special Advocate (CASA) and spent two years helping to establish a problem solving truancy court (ACE Court in Arapahoe County), mentoring three different teenage boys in the process.
Steve served for several years on the Colorado Restaurant Association’s Mile High Chapter Board, helping fundraise for injured or sick hospitality employees, as well as lobbying for restaurant friendly legislation. His family business recently won the “City of Aurora Business Recognition Award for 2020” for community involvement. The same Aurora business has earned “CNN Travel’s Top 100 Sports Bars in the US” and numerous recognitions in assisting schools, youth & adult sports teams, non-profits, public safety and countless fundraisers. In 2015, Steve was honored to receive the Chamber Leadership Award from the Aurora Chamber of Commerce.
His earliest memories of volunteer work are reading for elementary children and planting trees. Steve’s first truly challenging leadership appointment was overseeing the Deacon’s Ministry at Heritage Christian Center, a truly racially diverse organization, which had 12,000+ in weekly attendance. Under his leadership, the volunteers in that department more than doubled and incorporated women volunteers for the first time.
Steve met his wife Chantal in the Congo after building homes with Habitat for Humanity in Uganda. An immigrant from Rwanda, arriving in 1998, Chantal has become a US citizen and loves America. They have two amazing children, Livia and Luke, ages 21 and 19, who both attended Rangeview High School with high accolades.
Steve enjoys the outdoors, quaffing wine, reading and walking two family dogs.
He has a bachelor’s degree in speech communication from Colorado State University and a master’s degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix.
