InfoNancy Clegg is an economist with an Honours BA and an MA in Economics from Simon Fraser University. She spent 17 years working on her post-secondary education, while working as a legal secretary and raising a family at the same time.

Nancy began her post-secondary education at Kwantlen University College and then transferred to Simon Fraser University in 1987. She graduated her BA in 1990 and her MA in 1991.

Nancy returned to Kwantlen in 1991 and has been an economics instructor there for 13 years. For the past two years she has been working full-time as President of the Kwantlen Faculty Association (KFA), the union that represents the 850 faculty who teach at Kwantlen’s four campuses. She has also served as Secretary-Treasurer and Chief Steward of her union. The KFA is Local 5 of the College Institute Educators’ Association (CIEA).

Nancy has been a Member-at-Large on CIEA’s Executive Committee since 2002. In that capacity, she has represented CIEA on the Women’s Rights Committee and the Occupational Health & Safety Committee at the BC Federation of Labour. She is also a delegate to the New Westminster & District Labour Council.

Nancy is a municipally appointed member of the Delta Heritage Advisory Commission, working to keep Delta’s history alive. She also sits on the Surrey International Women’s Day Committee that organizes an annual event for women around IWD, and is a founding Director of the Surrey-based Bear Creek Institute.

As an academic, Nancy has published a journal article based on her MA thesis, and two textbooks of introductory economic theory. She has also edited a course manual for the Kwantlen Economics Department’s first level course, and currently acts as author/editor of the KFA’s monthly newsletter, KFActs.

Nancy served a three-year term from 1997 to 2000 as the elected faculty Governor on the Kwantlen Board of Governors. She is currently a provincially appointed member, representing university college faculty, of the BC Council on Admissions and Transfer, the body that oversees course transfer between post-secondary institutions in British Columbia.

Nancy is married and lives in Delta, and has three children, a son (28), a daughter (26), and another son (23).
