Info | GLASCOCK, John Raglan, a Representative from California; born in Panola County, Miss., August 25, 1845; in 1856 moved to California with his parents, who settled in San Francisco; attended the public schools and was graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1865; studied law at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville; was admitted to the bar by the supreme court of California in 1868 and commenced practice in Oakland, Calif.; admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States in 1882; district attorney of Alameda County, Calif., 1875-1877; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1883-March 3, 1885); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1884 to the Forty-ninth Congress; mayor of Oakland, Calif., 1887-1890; resumed the practice of law in Oakland; died at his country home in Woodside, Calif., November 10, 1913; interment in Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland, Calif
