InfoMeet Brion

If there were two words to describe my background it would be “community activist”. From a very young age, 4th grade to be more specific, I organized a group of students at the Pollard School in Billerica to beautify our school grounds with the permission from the school principal Mr. Jack Connolly to a drug awareness program organized by Mr. Bill Downing.

My community activism continued through my school years serving as class president, student council and my participation in the national program Presidential Classroom for Young Americans started by the late President Kennedy. Following my school years in Billerica I began my community activism by engaging myself in local civic groups as well as local government. Right after high school I ran for school committee, town meeting, chaired the personnel board, arts council, chaired the new town offices study committee, which led to the Howe Revitalization Committee, which consolidated all local offices under an $8 million complex. Eventually, I fulfilled my dream of holding state office by becoming the state representative for the 24th Middlesex district in 1990. After leaving the House of Representatives I returned to local government by running for selectman and served from 1993 – 1999.

My community activism has not just been limited to Billerica. I’ve participated in Public Action for the Arts, which were responsible for creating the Mega Bucks state lottery which funds local community art programs and artist, and served on the board of directors for the Boston Civic Symphony for many years.

I’ve been the president of the Billerica Sons of Italy, and the Billerica Historical Society satisfying my fascination for historic buildings and preservation. Over the years when time permitted I enjoyed the fellowship of fraternal organizations such as the Elks, Masons, Knights of Columbus, and Eastern Star. Many of these organizations my family has long been members and held high-ranking office.

While I have traveled extensively around the world my roots have always remained in Billerica where I have lived since the age of 1. I purchased my first home in the same neighborhood in which I was raised shortly after high school and where I still live today.

Professionally, I have been in real estate since high school working for companies such as Realty World, DeWolfe, C-21 and Coldwell Banker. In 2004, I switched to the mortgage side and work in Burlington for Amerihome Mortgage.

As you can see from my bio I have a long-standing commitment to the Commonwealth and the communities in which I have been blessed to serve. In all my public capacities I pride myself on being outspoken, honest and hardworking. While I’ve never considered myself a “politician” my preferred definition is statesman or public servant. My objective is not to become part of the problem but be part of the solution!
