Info | I live in the Lowry neighborhood of Denver. My wife is a physician at the University of Colorado, and we have two adorable young boys. I work as an attorney and Air Force Reservist and have years of legal, leadership, and governmental experience. I am dedicated to making positive changes in our community and to representing and advocating for Coloradans of all different backgrounds.
I grew up in a large family in Colorado Springs. My father, from Guam, and my mother, from Puerto Rico, came to Colorado knowing that with hard work and perseverance, they could make a better life for their children. They instilled in me a strong work ethic, solid moral values, and a passion for public service. They taught me to respect the opportunities this country has to offer. With hard work and persistence, I graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and subsequently traveled the world, serving our country during numerous deployments overseas.
I will be the first to tell you that I used to be a Republican, which is not surprising when you hear about my background. However, as an Air Force officer I met people from all different countries and Americans from all walks of life. I witnessed poverty, oppression, and violence abroad, and social inequalities and injustices at home. It made me realize how lucky I was to have overcome my family’s limited resources and socioeconomic barriers to get where I was. I was the exception, not the rule, when it came to achieving the American dream. It was then that my political views changed. I became a Democrat, passionate about helping others achieve their goals and serving my country in another form – as a representative in public office.
While serving in the Air Force Reserves, I used my Post 9/11 GI Bill to pursue a law degree from Suffolk University Law School in Boston.
My passion for public service continued to grow as I familiarized myself with the way law could be used to better the world around us. After law school, I set off for home, wife and new baby in tow – headed back to Colorado to build our new life together. When I moved to Denver, I was immediately drawn to the Lowry neighborhood, its old Air Force roots nodding at me down every street.
Since moving to Denver, I have gained legal expertise practicing in the largest law firm in the world. In the Air Force Reserves, I provide mentorship to high-school students looking to pursue their dreams of public service.
Outside of work, I enjoy the unique landscape Colorado has to offer, going on hikes, bike rides, and trail runs at every opportunity. I’ve been able to reconnect with my extended family and build a beautiful family of my own. I’ve talked to friends and neighbors, listening to their concerns regarding the state’s rapidly growing population, climate change, and inadequate resources for public schools.
Every Coloradan should be armed with the tools and opportunities to make a great life here. Let’s ensure that our children can continue to enjoy this state’s natural beauty by taking the actions necessary to protect our environment. Let’s make sure our communities thrive by focusing on one of our greatest resources - our schools. I will be your voice at the table, and together we can find solutions that make this vision a reality.
