John R. "Jack" Browne was born in County Sligo, Ireland, and came to Colorado in 1911. He was a cattle and horse rancher and longtime Lakewood resident. Commissioner Browne promoted the construction of West 6th Avenue as a major thoroughfare, and was instrumental in introducing rodeo events to the county. After his terms as Commissioner, Browne served in the State House of Representatives from 1951 to 1954.
