Info | After high school, Shak graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and became a decorated pilot flying combat missions in Desert Storm and missions all over the world. Because of his exceptional flying skill and drive for education, Shak was invited back to the Academy with his first By-Name request to be an instructor pilot. Shak concluded his career with an unprecedented second By-Name request to the Presidential Wing, Andrews Air Force Base, MD, where he finished as one of only two flight commanders in the 457th Airlift Squadron.
After serving for nine years and receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force as a Captain, Shak used his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance to help other families achieve their financial dreams. An accomplished businessman and author of two financial planning books, Shak worked for twenty years as a Certified Financial Planner professional and enjoyed imparting knowledge so others are empowered to make decisions best for their family. Today, Shak is the publisher at Guiding Light Books, LLC and owner of Guiding Light University, LLC.
In 2013, the Hill family received the Virginia Volunteer Family of the Year Award, presented by Governor McDonnell himself. Additionally, they were recognized as Hometown Heroes on WUSA Channel 9.
An active leader, Shak has used his talents to make his community better. Shak Hill Council SeatFrom board positions on the Estate Planning Council, the America Youth Philharmonic Orchestras (AYPO), the Northern Virginia American Cancer Society, to the local Homeowners Association, to being the school board president, to county wide positions on the Area Agency for Aging, the Economic Development Board, the Space Coast League of Cities and as an elected West Melbourne, FL City Councilman, Shak knows what it means to serve his neighbor, so they can have a better life.
Additionally, as an effort to maintain the integrity of the voting process, Shak has served Northern Virginia as an election Chief since 2008.
