Former Mayor, James P. (Jim) Bomprezzi Sr., a life long resident of Shelby County Tennessee, was born in Memphis, Oct. 13, 1938. His early school years were also in Memphis where he graduated from Memphis Catholic High School in 1956. Some of his further education include: Military Schools in Aviation, William R. Moore Technical College, Graduate of National Technical College, Associate of Science, Graduate of Memphis Police Academy, P.O.S.T. Certified in the field of Law Enforcement and also attended U.T., M.S.U., and Shelby State in continuing education. Retired Certified Real Estate Broker in the State of Tennessee.
Jim Bomprezzi's working years begin at an early age. His first job was carrier for the Commercial Appeal, then later as a grocer stocker for Big Star, and Food Center. He was always available to assist his father, and eager to learn new things while growing up. Later after his High School graduation, he enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Navy (Aviation), serving in the U.S. and Philippine Islands. Jim received the Good Conduct Medal, and was Honorably Discharged. After his return to Memphis, Jim was employed by Kimberly Clark Corp. In 1960 he attended, and graduated from the Memphis Police Academy, and was involved in Law Enforcement until 1987, when he retired with distinction at the rank of Lieutenant and Commander of a Criminal Investigation Division. He was chosen as Law Enforcement Officer of the Year in 1986, by Optimist International. Jim then became interested in Real Estate and has been a Principal Broker and business owner. As in his Law Enforcement years, Jim has always had an interest in helping people, and making his community a better place. This interest led him to politics, where he ran for, and was elected Commissioner of Lakeland Tennessee, in 1995 with approximately 60 percent of the votes. He then ran for and was elected Mayor of Lakeland in 1997. Mayor Bomprezzi's term of office expired Oct 4th 2001.
