InfoHélène Lapointe and her family have lived in Moncton East for 20 years. She has been involved in numerous Cultural and sporting organizations and events, including the Greater Moncton Music Festival, Comité du 15 août Dieppe/Moncton, Vélo NB, les Jeux de l’Acadie at regional and provincial levels, speed skating, and swimming.

She is interested in education, particularly the integration of children with special needs in schools. She has worked as a teacher assistant at Champlain and Sainte-Thérèse schools.

Her political experience began in 1998 with her involvement in the Moncton-East by-election NDP campaign. From there, she quickly rose within the Party, from campaign manager at the provincial election of 1999, federal candidate in Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe in 2000 and 2004, and campaign manager in the provincial election of 2006. From 2001 to 2003, she was the President of the New Democratic Party of New-Brunswick. She has been a member of the Provincial Executive and Council for 7 years and member of the NDP Federal Council for 4 years. During this time, she has proudly represented the NDP at numerous meetings, seminars, round tables, radio and television interviews and programmes.

She is firmly committed to the environment and deplores the fact that both the provincial and federal governments are not putting enough money and effort into fighting climate change and protecting the environment.

She works in a printing shop in Dieppe and is bilingual.

Ms. Lapointe is proud to represent the New Democratic Party in the Moncton-East by-election and hopes to represent the constituency in the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly starting March 6, 2007.
