Info | Rick was born, raised and educated in the City of Brandon, graduating from Brandon University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
In 1978 he took an interest in local politics and was elected Alderman for the University Ward. Rick and NormaHe was elected by his peers to be Deputy Mayor during his last term as Alderman.
In 1984 he relocated with his job as Manager of the Brandon Shoppers Mall to Calgary and then to Toronto as Director of Operations for Bramalea Ltd., a major Canadian Shopping Centre Developer.
Home is where the Heart is, so Rick and his family returned to Brandon and was successful in his run form mayor in 1989. While mayor Rick was involved in attracting the 1994 World Curling event, the Wally Byam Convention and 1997 Canada Summer Games. He was also very involved with the Brandon Riverbank Development, Economic Development and Sunday shopping. One of his most gratifying accomplishments was the implementation of the Brandon lead Provincial 911 Emergency service. He also sat on numerous committees including directorship of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities from 1990-1997. Rick was honoured with a Life Membership to the Association of Manitoba Municipalities.
Rick was mayor of Brandon until 1997 when he was elected to represent the constituency of Brandon/Souris as the Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament. He was re-elected in 2000 until his retirement in 2004. While a Member of Parliament Rick worked extremely hard on behalf of agricultural producers as the Agricultural Critic. He was very involved in the relocation of 2 PPCLI to CFB Shilo. During his term Rick also served as the PC National Caucus Chair and Party Whip.
