Gelb graduated from Cornell University in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in government and history and from the Boston University School of Law in 1985.
After law school, Gelb took a position with Cefalo and Associates in West Pittston, and stayed with the firm until 2008, when she opened her own practice in Kingston.
Gelb has spent the majority of her 25 years as a lawyer handling civil litigation, including motor vehicle accidents, personal injuries and premises liability.
Gelb, a Democrat, has also been engaged in politics.
She worked as a paid staffer for the Walter Mondale presidential campaign in 1984 and served as chairwoman of former Luzerne County Commissioner Todd Vonderheid's primary campaign in 2003.
