Info | FLAGLER, Thomas Thorn, a Representative from New York; born in Pleasant Valley, Dutchess County, N.Y., October 12, 1811; attended the common schools; learned the printer’s trade and became one of the owners and publishers of the Chenango Republican, Oxford, N.Y.; moved to Lockport in 1836 and published the Niagara Courier until 1842, when he engaged in the hardware business; member of the State assembly in 1842 and 1843; treasurer of Niagara County 1849-1852; elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress and reelected as an Opposition Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1853-March 3, 1857); was not a candidate for renomination in 1856; resumed former business pursuits; again a member of the State assembly in 1860; member of the State constitutional convention in 1867 and 1868; organized and became president of the Holly Manufacturing Co. in 1859, and for many years was the head of eight such organizations; died in Lockport, N.Y., on September 6, 1897; interment in Glenwood Cemetery.
