Info | Banker and Liberal politician.
Member of Parliament for North Monmouthshire 1895-1918, President of the Board of Education 1907-1908, First Lord of the Admiralty 1908-1911, Home Secretary 1911-1915, Chancellor of the Exchequer 1915-1916.
McKenna resigned from the cabinet due to his opposition to conscription and failed to win re-election to the Commons at the 1918 General Election. Following his defeat he became the Chairman of the Midland Bank and never returned to political life, despite an apparent wish to be offered the position of Chancellor so he could refuse it.
