Info | Gary Grigsby has been a life-long Central Missourian and a long-time Johnson County resident. Growing up in nearby Saline County, his common sense, rural values were ingrained at an early age.
He was a Cub and Eagle Boy Scout, Order of the Arrow Vigil, Chief of the Metab Lodge (OA), and served on the camp staff with Philmont and the 1960 Jamboree among his scouting experiences. As his school’s representative to the Sophomore Pilgrimage to Jefferson City, and as a member of the 1962 Missouri Boys State, he demonstrated early interest in government and the legislative process.
After graduation from the University of Missouri with an education degree, Gary served as a U.S. Marine Corps Officer during the Vietnam Era and attained the rank of Captain. He was stationed at The Basic School, Quantico, Va.; Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C.; and temporary duties and schools including Naval Justice School, Newport, R.I., before serving overseas. He is a member of the American Legion.
Besides a Missouri lifetime teaching certificate and teaching in the public schools of Missouri, he taught computer programming in the College of Business & Economics, University of Central Missouri and held Missouri Funeral Director, Missouri Insurance, and Missouri Real Estate Agent Licenses..
As the “Voice” of the UCM Marching Mules for over 30 years, Gary is also the announcer for marching band competitions including The Festival of Champions (formerly known as Music Bowl-Missouri) and Carrollton Band Day. He has served as a counselor on the Missouri Boys State staff for more than 30 years.
Gary is a Commissioner on the Warrensburg Arts Commission. He is the Music Director at First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church in Warrensburg, has been a deacon and served on the Church Board, sings in the Warrensburg Community Chorus, and co-directs the New Horizons Band.
