InfoIn February of 1987, Governor Robert P. Casey nominated William F. Moran to serve as a Northampton County Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. He was sworn into office on May 18, 1987. He was elected to a full term in 1989 and was retained by the voters for an additional term of 10 years in 1999. He presides over civil and criminal trials and is also assigned as the presiding Judge in Juvenile Court.

Judge Moran was admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1971. Prior to entering the Bethlehem law firm of Littner, Moran, and Deschler in 1978, he was with the law firm of Fishbone, Refowich, and Moran in Easton, Pennsylvania. From 1969 to 1971, Judge Moran was an attorney with the Office of the Solicitor, United States Department of Labor in Washington, DC.

Judge Moran was elected in 1974 to serve as a member of the Northampton County Government Study Commission. That group prepared Northampton County's Home Rule Charter. He served as chairman of the Commission from 1974 to 1976. In 1977, he was elected as a member of the initial Northampton County Council. He served as a member of County Council from 1978 to 1982. He was appointed Northampton County Solicitor in 1982 and served in that position until his appointment as judge in 1987. Judge Moran is a member of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges and the American Bar Association, as well as the Pennsylvania and Northampton County Bar Associations. He served with the United States Army as Captain with the First Infantry Division in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star, two Army Commendation Medals and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

His community activities include past service as a commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America Minsi Trails Council, President of the Northampton County Homemaker Health Aide Service, Inc., Vice President of the United Way of Northampton and Warren Counties and Vice President of the Northampton County Development Corporation. In addition, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Wiley House, the Burnside Plantation, Inc., and the Historic Bethlehem Partnership, Inc. He is a current member of the Communities in Schools of the Lehigh Valley.

Judge Moran graduated from Georgetown University in 1964, with a Bachelor of Arts degree and from the University of Chicago with a Juris Doctor in 1967. He and his wife, Susan, reside in Bethlehem.
