Info | Andrezeski, who served as a state senator for 16 years in the 1980s and 1990s, confirmed Monday that he plans to challenge Erie County Executive Mark DiVecchio for the Democratic nomination for county executive in the May 19 municipal primary.
A one-time ironworker, Andrezeski represented the 49th District in the Pennsylvania Senate from 1981 until 1997. He was upset in the 1996 election by Republican Jane Earll, who in November won election to her fourth, four-year term.
Andrezeski was seeking a fifth term in 1996, but had become a lightning rod for criticism related to his legislative expenses. During the race, Earll's campaign labeled him the "king of perks."
Andrezeski holds a master's degree in guidance and counseling and a bachelor of arts degree in political science, both from Gannon University. He also earned a law degree from Widener University.
Andrezeski was elected to Erie County Council in 1978, representing Erie's west side. He unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 1982 and 1994.
