InfoJoe Oliver was the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada from 1995 to 2007. During part of that time he also served as Chair of the Financial Services Council of Canada and a member of the board of RS Inc. and is currently on the board of the Canadian Securities Institute Research Foundation. He was the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada (1998-2003) and served on the boards of the Canadian Capital Markets Association and CSI Global Education and was Chair of the Canadian Securities Institute (1995-2001).

Mr. Oliver is the past Chair of the Advisory Committee of the International Council of Securities Associations, an organization of self-regulators and industry representatives that represent over 90% of the global capital markets. He was Chair of the Consultative Committee of the International Association of Securities Commissions, the committee that represents the over 50 self-regulatory organizations and exchanges around the world.

Mr. Oliver, who is bilingual, graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Business with an MBA (1970). Previously, he had been called to the Québec Bar after receiving a BA and BCL from McGill University, where he was the Editor-in-Chief of the McGill Law Journal. He was awarded a Bourse de Perfectionnement by the Québec government to pursue graduate legal studies at the University of Paris.

Mr. Oliver has held several senior positions in the investment industry. Before he joined IDA, he was Vice-President and Director of Investment Banking at First Marathon Securities Limited (1993-1995). He is the former Executive Director of the Ontario Securities Commission (1991-1993) and managed the Government and Corporate Finance Departments at Nesbitt Thomson Inc. (1982-1991) and Merrill Lynch Canada Inc., where he started in the investment business in 1970.

Mr. Oliver is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators and recipient of the CICBV designation in 1994. In 2004, Mr. Oliver graduated from the Directors Education Program offered by the Rotman School of Management and the Institute of Corporate Directors and holds an ICD.D designation.

Mr. Oliver served as Chair of the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada for 4 years and is an active volunteer at Mount Sinai Hospital where he served on the board and several committees and chaired the Audit Committee of the Foundation.
