| Info | Born on November 4, 1869, in Milwaukee. His father, the Reverend William Dammann, was a pioneer Lutheran pastor of that city. Mr. Dammann received his early education in the public and parochial schools and later attended Concordia College, Milwaukee. He was a merchant in that city for twenty years, and was long active in educational, civic, and charitable organizations.
In 1911, he became the president of the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee; for thirty-two years, he was a member of the A Capella Chorus, serving nine years as president; and from 1916 to 1930 was president of the Lutheran Home for the Aged in Wauwatosa.
For three consecutive terms (1912-1919), he was the treasurer of Milwaukee County. He was a La Follette delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1920 and 1932 and treasurer of the Milwaukee County Republican Committee from 1920 to 1924. As a Republican, he held the office of Secretary of State from 1927 to 1935. In the fall of 1934, he was re-elected to the office as a Progressive and was again re-elected in 1936.
