In El Salvador Manuel was very active in politics. As teenager in 1974 he became angry about the injustices that he witnessed in his neighbourhood and this motivated him to become an active participant in political activities designed to promote social justice. This passion for justice has remained an important part of Manuel's life and has led him to take on the role of the NDP candidate in Cypress-Medicine Hat.
