She was named a Governor of the U.S. Postal Service by President George W. Bush through a recess appointment on November 3, 2004. Governor Gallagher most recently served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Texwood Furniture, Inc., a leading U.S. manufacturer of educational furniture located in Taylor, Texas. She purchased the company in 1988. After leading it through 12 years of growth and profitability, she sold Texwood to Sagus International in 2000.
Governor Gallagher earned her undergraduate degree from Duke University in 1976 and a Master's in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School in 1982. She has been a community leader in Austin, Texas, for many years, chairing numerous non-profit boards.
