| Info | Donald Dunn is a fourth generation Utahn who grew up in the Rose Park area of Salt Lake City, in Utah's 1st Congressional District.
Currently, Donald teaches a political science class at the University of Utah and does consulting for the Hinckley Institute of Politics, the National Academic League, and the United States Trade and Development Agency.
In 2000, Donald was the Democratic Nominee for the U.S. Congress in Utah's Third Congressional District. In 2002, Donald was a candidate for the U.S. Congress in Utah's First Congressional District.
Donald has been a life long Democrat who has been actively involved in building-up the local and state Democratic Party. His commitment to his community and to public service began when he worked for Salt Lake City Mayor Palmer DePaulis. As the Mayor's Youth Volunteer Council Coordinator, Donald demonstrated his knack for coalition building by creating a youth council with representatives from all of Salt Lake City's high schools. Donald was then asked to serve as Youth Volunteer Council Coordinator for Salt Lake County Commissioners Randy Horiuchi, Jim Bradley, and Mike Stewart.
After graduating from the University of Utah with a degree in Political Science and a teaching certificate, Donald continued his call to community and public service when he moved to Washington, D.C. and served in the White House offices of Public Liaison and Cabinet Affairs. In the fall of 1994, he was promoted to Special Assistant to the White House Political Director, where he managed the daily operations of the office and served as the principal White House contact for the Democratic National Committee and the 1996 Presidential Reelection Committee. Donald was then promoted to serve as the Deputy Political Director for the Southern United States where he served as liaison between White House and Democratic Party leadership in the southern states as well as 16 countries of the Democrats Abroad Committee.
In June 1996, Donald left the White House to join the President's reelection committee, serving first as the Director of Operations in the Office of Public Liaison for the Democratic National Convention Committee in Chicago, Illinois. Then he then joined the General Election Committee as the Northeastern Regional Press Director for the duration of the President's successful reelection campaign. Following the campaign, Donald worked on the 53rd Presidential Inaugural Committee.
In 1997, Donald was appointed as the Director of Public Affairs and Marketing for the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (TDA), an independent agency which creates jobs for Americans by helping US companies pursue overseas business opportunities. Donald traveled around the world helping U.S. companies expand in emerging markets. While at TDA, Donald was responsible for directing press, communications, and marketing efforts to promote the agency and its priorities to other government agencies and the U.S. business community.
Donald, 31, is the son of Rachelle and Kenneth Dunn of Sandy, Utah. He is an avid motorcycle rider, enjoys the outdoors, and has a good time improving his golf game in the summer and likes to ski blue runs in the winter. Donald has one brother, George Dunn, and a sister, Connie Dunn Larsen, and he is the proud uncle of five nieces and nephews. Donald loves Utah and plans to raise his family here.
He is a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, the University of Utah Alumni Association, and a board member of his Temple.
On the 23rd of August 2003, Donald was elected Chair of the Utah Democratic Party.
