InfoI was born in Monett, Barry County, Missouri, in 1953, to E.L. and Ivia Mae Monroe. My wife Susan and I have been married since 1977. We have made our home in Greene County since 1982. We have one daughter, age 27, our son-in-law, and our six-month-old granddaughter in St. Louis.

After graduating from Princeton University and the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, I was on active duty in the United States Army for three years. As a Judge Advocate General's Corps officer I tried court martial cases in Kansas, Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky.

In 1982 I became an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for David Geisler and the next year became Tom Mountjoy's Chief Assistant in that Office.

For the last 20 years I served as a Federal Prosecutor in the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri, until my early retirement (and relief from the limitations of the Hatch Act restricting political activities) in February of 2008. During this period I dealt with a broad range of Federal criminal issues from health care fraud to drug enforcement, immigration enforcement to financial frauds, murder and a multitude of other issues. Susan and I also owned a retail business in Springfield for fifteen years.
