Info | Greg Ottenbreit is a long-time resident of Yorkton and a man who has always given generously to his community. Born in Regina, Ottenbreit has lived in Yorkton for most of his life.
Until his election, Ottenbreit owned and operated Ottenbreit Waste Systems Limited along with his brother Grant.
He has extensive involvement in community and volunteer organizations, including: the Yorkton Kinsmen Club, the Compassionate Friends of Yorkton, the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce, the Yorkton Business Improvement District, the Yorkton Flying Club, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, the Yorkton Recycling Task Force, the Waste Advisory Board of Yorkton, and the Waste Advisory Council of Saskatchewan.
Ottenbreit married his high school sweetheart, Leone, more than 21 years ago. In 1998, the couple started the "Brayden Ottenbreit Close Cuts for Cancer" event which encourages volunteers to shave their heads to raise money for cancer research. The charity is named in honour of their son Brayden who died of cancer in 2000 at age 5. To date, more than $400,000 has been raised for cancer research. Ottenbreit and Leone have two daughters, Katelin, and Rayanne.
Ottenbreit says he has always worked to make Yorkton a better place through his business and community activities.
“In everything I do, I am always guided by trying to set a strong example for my children and live in a way that will make them proud,” Ottenbreit says. “That includes Brayden, who I believe is always with me and watching over me.”
Greg was elected in November 2007 and was formerly the Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Social Services. He is currently the Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Environment. Mr. Ottenbreit is currently the Chair of the caucus' Standing Policy Committee on Human Services and is also the Chair of the Legislature's Standing Committee on Human Services.
