Info | Gary Grant attained the rank Staff Superintendent of the Toronto Police Service and was nominated on May 30 to represent John Tory's team in Scarborough-Guildwood.
Raised and currently residing in Scarborough, Gary has served the Toronto Police Service for 39 years. He recently served as Interim Deputy Chief of Police and the City of Toronto in a number of different capacities. He is also a dedicated volunteer to a number of charitable causes, which include the Toronto East General Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, past Chair of the Toronto Police Widows and Orphans Fund and the Toronto Police Service United Way Campaign.
In 1984, he introduced the Crime Stoppers Program to the Toronto Police Service and remains an active participant in the program. Crime Stoppers has proven, over time, to be a successful strategy in capturing dangerous criminals who prey upon vulnerable people in Toronto's various communities.
On May 25, 2007, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, installed Mr. Grant into the Order of Merit of the Police Forces. The Order was created in October 2000 to recognize conspicuous merit and exceptional service by members and employees of the Canadian police forces whose contributions extend beyond protection of the community.
Gary has been very impressed with John Tory's leadership and track record, and has decided to further his public service by running for the Ontario Legislature. Some of the issues that he wants to address include community safety, education, health care, gridlock, public transit and making sure Scarborough has a strong voice in the Ontario legislature.
Gary is the proud father of four daughters; two of them are serving in the Toronto Police Service. He is running because he believes in John Tory's vision for a better Ontario and a stronger City of Toronto.
