Info | Councilmember was first elected to the City Council in December 1994. She served as Chairman of the Council in 2000. Mrs. Holt, the youngest of seven children, was born and reared in the Douglass Community, graduated from Douglass High School and attended LeMoyne Owen College and Shelby State Community College. Mrs. Holt retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 28 years of service. She was the first black female Customer Service representative in the Memphis Post Office, a position she held for the last ten years of her postal career. Mrs. Holt, an ordained evangelist and gifted singer, is an active member of First Baptist Mt. Olive Church, where she serves as an evangelist and bible class teacher. She is also an active member of the Douglass, Bungalow and Crump Neighborhood Association and is Chaplain of Douglass Alumni National Corporation. Mrs. Holt is Regional Director, Region XII, of the board of directors of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO) and serves on the Human Development Committee of the National League of Cities (NLC). She is a graduate of the Class of 1999 Leadership Institute of Memphis. She serves on the Advisory Council of Teen Job Services, Women in Community Service, and the Memphis Police Department's North Precinct Advisory Council; board member of Mission Possible: COSM, Partners for the Homeless, Memphis Cook Convention Center, Postal Employees Credit Union, Memphis National Ornamental Metal Museum, Memphis Area Neighborhood Watch, Inc., Memphis Housing Resource Center; and advisory board member of The Orpheum Theatre and The Salvation Army. Mrs. Holt has two sons, Michael and Cecil Moore, Jr., one daughter-in-law, Tanya, and nine grandchildren, "her pride and joy." The theme of her life is "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5,6
