InfoAndrzej (Andrew) Chlobowski was born in Poland in the historical city of Krakow. He spent his childhood and university years there. He finished his Master’s Degree in physics in 1983 and later started the PhD program in molecular biology. He withdrew from that program when he emigrated from Poland in 1986.

Andrzej’s first adventures into political activism started in his senior years of high school, when he was distributing underground literature in opposition to the ruling communist regime. During a brief period of political freedom in 1980-81, he became a member of the Independent Student Union (a non-communist student organization) at Jagiellonian University in Krakow and was elected to its council. After martial law was declared in Poland in 1981 the student organization was disbanded but Andrew continued his political endeavors by running an underground library.

Upon the arrival in Canada in 1987, Andrzej settled in Toronto. As a new immigrant he worked at several different jobs, completed a master’s degree in computer science at McMaster University. In the late 90's, he created a successful bakery business, first as a distributor, then as an owner. In 2000, Andrzej had become a major shareholder and the general manager of the biggest Polish bakery in Canada. He also developed a new and successful line of organic breads distributed throughout Ontario.

Andrzej got his Canadian citizenship in 1991 and in the same year moved to Oakville. In addition to running his business, he read numerous books and Internet publications about environmental issues. He became a member of the Green Party of Canada during the election of 2000. During the following election in 2004, he volunteered in Tania Orton’s Green Party campaign in Oakville. He was a responsible and hard working volunteer during Laura Domsy's election campaign in 2006.

Following the election campaign of 2006, Andrzej attempted to engage Oakville Green Party members in the task of reviving the Electoral District Association. On March 2nd, 2006 he called a meeting that reestablished an active executive of the EDA and during that meeting Andrzej was elected its temporary CEO. Together with the other members of the executive he organized the first ever Annual General Meeting of Oakville Federal Green Party EDA on June 14th, 2006. He decided not to run for the CEO position again in order to seek the candidacy, and to work as the Policy Chair of the Oakville EDA.

Andrzej has been an active participant of the environmental movement in Oakville. In recent years he took part in the anti-pesticide campaign, tree plantings, and as a volunteer helper for the Halton Eco Festival. Currently he is a member of the Think Tank - an advisory body that helps to build the strategy for Oakvillegreen Conservation Association. During the summer and fall of 2006 he hosted a Community Shared Agriculture pick-up depot for Whole Circle Organic Farm from the Acton area that provided fresh organic produce for 25 families in Oakville. He is hosting it again this year.

In his current function as the Policy Chair Andrzej attended several environmental symposia and Green Party policy meetings. He reads widely on topics related to environmental, economic, foreign policy and social matters.
