Info | Edward J. Chavez was elected in the March 2004 primary election with a majority of the vote, and he was sworn into office in January 2005.
Prior to becoming Mayor, he served the Stockton Police Department for over 30 years, the last 10 years as the Chief of Police. As Mayor, he continues his focus of involving the community in local government, including:
the proposed Strong Neighborhoods Initiative,
the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Crime Prevention Committee, and
Mayor's Task Force on Persons with Disabilities
Mayor Chavez was born and raised in Stockton and attended local schools. He obtained an A.A. from San Joaquin Delta College in 1970, earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice from California State University - Sacramento in 1972, and a M.S. in Management from Cal Poly Pomona in 1992.
