InfoOffice sought: At-large alderman

Name: LaMark Combs

Age: 31

Occupation: Pastor at Higher Heights Missionary Baptist Church

Education: Currently attending Scott Community College, majoring in criminal justice.

Political experience/public service: Congress Vice President of Eastern District Association of Iowa Missionary and Educational Baptist State Convention, work with special needs kids in a state of Iowa program, community advocate with Voice Your Choice, Scott County Correctional Officer for eight years where he served as chief union steward for Teamster’s Local 238, member of Juvenile Justice Advisory Council, member of Davenport Citizen Advisory Committee.

Top issues: We need to continue to nurture a strong business environment. We need to work to retain our existing businesses and develop opportunities to lure new businesses to the community.

I intend to hold the line on property taxes and instead focus on expanding the tax base as a means of addressing the city’s fiscal needs as the people of Davenport are already carrying a significant tax burden.

Secondly, I will work to strengthen our older neighborhoods and our core downtown as I believe that as our neighborhoods and downtown prosper, so in turn does our entire city thrive.

And, finally, perhaps most importantly, I will stress public safety. Whether you live in the central city or north of Locust and are victimized by violent and property crimes, public safety is vital to good quality of life. It impacts the perception that our neighbors, new citizens and potential new businesses have of Davenport.
