Info | Gail M. Simpson is a dynamic mother, leader, community advocate, and public speaker. She has a daughter, Morgan, who is a graduate of Western University Cooley Law School. A native of Chicago, she graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with both a Bachelor and Master degree in Administration of Justice. Under the administration of Governor James Thompson, she was chosen to be a Dunn Fellow. She has been employed with the State of Illinois for 30 years. As a public service administrator, with the Department of Children and Family Services, she works to ensure that the individual needs of youth are met. She remains dedicated to her job and the youth she serves, giving wholeheartedly while working to assistance in any way possible. She is deeply and passionately tied to her community.
Prior to becoming Springfield’s first African American female Alderman, she spoke out against various community improprieties. She continually stresses the importance of education, community involvement, and economic development. As Alderman, she endeavors to improve the quality of life for the residents of Springfield. Her membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a public service organization, has afforded her a plethora of opportunities for hands on community service. She has twice served as the Springfield-Decatur Area Alumnae Chapter President and remains an active member.
